DVR Setting Changes?

Is it just me, or did Comcast/Motorola change the settings on my DVR? My first one seemed to run hot, and at one point just stopped working properly. So Comcast replaced it for me, but the "new" one seemed to actually respond a lot slower to the remote. But that's not what I'm talking about. I am talking about the fast forward speeds. I swear the first FF setting is significantly slower than it used to be - almost doesn't seem like FF at all. And the second FF speed seems really fast, significantly faster than it used to be. Now I have no proof of this of course - why would I have thought to time the FF speeds on my previous unit? But it is just a perception I have, about which I am often right. My cynical theory about this is that they made it this way because the second FF speed would be too fast for most people and so they would go back to the first FF speed, which is really slow, so they end up watching the commercials anyway, even with no sound.

I also think that they have increased the decibel differential between programming and commercials. Again no proof - didn't buy and use a decibel meter before, thinking that hey, they are going to make this annoying thing even worse! Gotta get one of those TVs that automatically adjusts for it.
