The Bottom Of A River

L and I signed up for to help move aquatic animals that get trapped when the utility empties their canal for maintenance. It was quite a remarkable experience to be walking in the bottom of a river. Along with the other people there, we collected and moved hundreds of animals, from tiny baby sea lampreys to a 12 inch largemouth bass. The number of animals was impressive - of course there were many fish and lamprey that did not make it. And there were hundreds of crayfish that were still very feisty. Of course, this was not all much to L's style, but she did fantastically well with all of it, while declining to pick up anything with her hands. She did net a bunch of stuff though, and had a great eye for finding things to gather. We even found an old credit card!
